A safe and stable home for everyone and fair and practical pathways to home ownership
Head Start Homes is advancing a more equitable home ownership system by disrupting homelessness, intergenerational poverty, and cycles of disadvantage. We achieve this by providing innovative products and services that empower our clients to achieve their home ownership dreams and exit rental accommodation. To be eligible, clients must meet income thresholds or live in social or affordable housing. Most of our clients are single mums, First Nations Peoples, or households with a disability. We are accredited as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt community service organisation.
HEADSTART HOMES EMPOWERMENT SERVICES
HEAD START FINANCIAL CAPABILITY SERVICE
Supports eligible clients to build financial capability by providing a dedicated Financial Capability Worker to support clients achieve their savings goals, manage debts and improving their financial literacy.
HEAD START SAVINGS PLAN
Support eligible clients to improve their financial capability and mortgage readiness. This includes regular saving goal check-ins, access to a dedicated Head Start Client Manager, budgeting resources, credit check support and referrals to specialist bankers and property coaches.
HEAD START PURCHASE
Empowers eligible clients to find the right home at the right price by providing clients with access to a free property mentor and buyer’s agent, education on legal obligations and responsibilities involved in purchasing a property and discounted services like conveyancing.
HEADSTART HOMES EMPOWERMENT PRODUCTS
HEAD START RECYCLING GUARANTEE
we can act as a Guarantor for eligible clients which may remove the clients’ need for a bank deposit and lender’s mortgage insurance.
ACCESS TO DISCOUNTED HOME LOAN PRODUCTS
Our clients are provided with priority access to local specialist bankers who can provide discounted interest rates and fees for our clients. This can save clients many thousands of dollars over the life of the loan and improves their ability to service their home loan.
ENHANCING ACCESS TO THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT'S HOME GUARANTEE SCHEME
by collaborating with our banking partners our clients have enhanced access to Government Guarantees. This includes priority access, specialist lenders, discounted interest rates and lower fees.
HEAD START AFFORDABLE RENT-TO-BUY
(commencing in Wollongong LGA in 2026/27): An innovative rent-to-buy solution whereby we create more affordable rental housing that is managed by community housing providers. Eligible clients are offered a lease of up to five years, access to our Empowerment Services, and our conditional Equity+ Option which may enable clients to purchase our affordable rental homes at a discount with positive equity.
